Cambridge Chapter

Local Chapters In June 1991, the third chapter of Say Yes to Education was established in Cambridge, MA when Lesley University entered into a partnership with the Say Yes to Education Foundation and the Cambridge public school district.


69 students entering third grade at the Harrington Elementary School comprised the new Say Yes group. The collaboration with Lesley University provided the Cambridge Chapter with access to varied human and institutional resources available through the University's broad spectrum of programs.


Included were graduate and undergraduate student services for tutoring and counseling, academic resources, and special events. Lesley also designated Harrington a professional development school with a Lesley faculty member assigned to work with Harrington on an ongoing basis.

Hartford Chapter
Hartford The Hartford Chapter of Say Yes to Education began in October 1990, when 76 fifth grade students from the Annie Fisher Elementary School visited the University of Hartford and received the same promise of assistance that George Weiss had made to the Belmont students three years earlier in Philadelphia. George Weiss, along with local sponsors Mort and Irma Handel, and John Berman and his late wife Beverly, pledged to pay post-secondary school tuition for every student in the class. The University of Hartford gift was linked with what is now called the Hartford Scholars Program, which provides half tuition at the University of Hartford for Hartford public school graduates.

New York Harlem Program
Harlem The New York Chapter of Say Yes was founded in 2004, launching with 372 students and over 500 siblings, making it the largest Chapter to date. The Harlem Program operates in five schools located throughout Harlem: P.S. 57, P.S. 83, P.S. 161, P.S. 180, and P.S. 182.
